Urgent food warning issued over popular snack sold in Tesco

The Natural Confectionery Co. Jelly Snakes have been recalled by company Mondelez International due to a packaging error.

The sweets may contain wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label. The company explained that some jelly snake packs can contain Liquorice Allsorts sweets, and those have gluten.

The product is, therefore, a health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to gluten.

Mondelez International said: “If you have bought Jelly Snakes and you/anyone you know has an allergy to wheat, please do not consume this product.”

The Food Standards Agency explained: “This product may contain wheat (gluten) making it a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.”
