There was no place for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer in the side. Both the batters displayed a magnificent brand of cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL). And them not making it into the team became a major talking point.
Apart from naming the strong 15-member, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also named five reserves for the tournament. Yashasvi Jaiswal, along with Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna and Dhruv Jurel, were named as well.
The standby players will not be travelling with the main squad to Dubai – BCCI source
The travelling reserves often travel with the teams, and it was expected that Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna and Dhruv Jurel would board the flight to the UAE. However, that isn’t the case BCCI won’t be allowing them to travel with the team.
A source close to BCCI confirmed that standby players won’t be travelling with the team. However, they will be called up immediately if there is any injury concern. Speaking to PTI, he said:
“No, the standby players will not be travelling with the main squad to Dubai.”
The Indian team will be playing their first game against the UAE at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. At the same venue then, they will be locking horns with Pakistan on 14th September.
Their last league game will be against Oman. The game will be played on 19th September at the Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. They are the defending champions and would want to win another title.
